O.F.G. Radio: Episode #8

as i mention in this week's podcast, i'm unofficially switching my posting schedule to every other week. it takes a little pressure off me, as far as recording and editing these things goes. and it allows me a little breathing room as far as finding new music or coming up with new themes for a given week. if a friday comes around where i'm not 'scheduled' to record something new and i feel like i really need to anyway, i'll go ahead and do it. but for the most part, it'll be every other week from here on in. hope no one's too broken up about it.

now, this episode.... well, about once every week or two, i put together a lil' wayne playlist of 15 or 20 songs and have a couple beers while letting it play through. while i can't quite recreate this experience entirely and convey how much i enjoy it through a podcast, i thought i'd give it a shot. if you have no interest in weezy, i won't be offended if you skip this one. but if you're the slightest bit intrigued, give it a shot. i avoided songs from his most recent record-breaking album, which i figured that people would've already heard if they'd wanted to. but this playlist is a representation of most of my other favourite lil' wayne tracks.

O.F.G. Radio: Episode #7

a week late, but better for it, here's another episode of... i believe it's actually exclusively new music this time. as much as i wanted to repeat artists this week (yeah yeah yeahs' "heads will roll," phoenix's "1901," and you love her coz she's dead's "dead end" were particularly unfortunate omissions), the one-week absence allowed me to compile even more good new music than usual. hopefully this one's better off for it. it's a bit all over the place, from electro to rock to r&b to rap and back to rock again. i can't imagine many people digging ALL of it, but i think there's a little something in there for everyone.

O.F.G. Radio: Episode #6

gosh, it's fun doing one of these with a bunch of short, snappy pop songs. i can cram a ton of tracks into an hour-long playlist! i mean, those lengthy shout out out out out jams were fun last week, but in this episode, i was able to include two or three songs from a few artists i thought deserved it, and was still able to feature 15 different artists! going back about 30 years with this one, to the late 1970s and early 1980s (it's nearly been 30 years since the early 80s... eye-opening). the overarching theme is power pop, but don't hold me to it for each and every song. i was already running late getting this one up, and fighting off a cold, so i didn't bother re-recording any of the spoken bits -- hopefully the music will make up for it, and you'll hear some stuff from the era that you enjoy.

O.F.G. Radio: Episode #5

this week's episode is composed nearly entirely of tracks from albums that have leaked in the last couple of weeks (megasoid's remix of dizzee's "pussyole" and the g-side track being the only ones i'm late to the party on). with stuff like the juan maclean and thunderheist, i'm playing catch-up, as they leaked almost immediately after my last new music episode. with others, like the rakes, i just heard them for the first time a day or two ago, and am basing my track picks on only a listen or two through them. regardless, i feel good about the selections here, particularly the two 8+ minute jams from shout out out out out that bookend the episode. it's good to hear new material from my favourite live band. hope you dig it.
